YOUR FATHER’S FLOWERS

Your father’s flowers woke today, incubated

In the city’s washed-out park

By global warming’s foreign spark,

The atrophy of winter traded

For a moment in the sun,

Where the realistic fixtures

Of soil and rot succumb

To more flowery, if inflated, pictures

In whose resurrected shade

Pastel Easter eggs are found

And slyly Fabergé’d

By the spring’s transcendent ground,

Dirt’s unseasonable unreasonable bouquet

Risen to a sketchy glory,

The efflorescent understory

Of an impossible soufflé.
